One of Britain’s top zoos, set in 75 acres of naturalistic landscaped grounds with plenty of trees and water.

Home to many amazing species, including rhino, elephant, giraffe, orangutans, gorillas, lions, tigers – plus lots of surprises.

Fearless explorers who like their creature comforts should take a trip to Paignton Zoo Environmental Park.

Paignton Zoo is one of Britain’s leading zoos. Founded in 1923 by eccentric millionaire Herbert Whitley, it has evolved into a leading conservation, education and scientific charity. As well as a major visitor attraction with animals from all over the world, Paignton Zoo supports and runs vital research and conservation work both at home and abroad.

The zoo, a registered charity, offers a great-value combination of natural excitement and family facilities. Here, 3,000 animals live in a range of different indoor and outdoor habitats, including wetlands, savannah and tropical forest.

Family-friendly, with restaurant, takeaways, free parking, miniature train ride and play areas indoors and out.

Visitors can cover thousands of miles in just a few hours and on foot, on a world-wide nature trail at Paignton Zoo. Scorching deserts, African Savannah and the rain forests of South America are all represented. It’s a great day out for all the family and an exciting opportunity to find out about conservation and the world’s endangered species.

The Zoo (a registered conservation charity) has plenty to keep everyone going all day – food, shopping, indoor and outdoor play areas, a miniature train, a free bird show and the hands-on interactive Discovery Centre.

Open daily (except Christmas Day): 10am – 6pm.

Arrive early. Fridays and Saturdays are usually the quietest days. There are large free car parks, but if you come by public transport or bicycle then you get a 10 per cent discount on entry.

When you arrive, think about buying a Joint Saver Ticket, which gets you into Paignton Zoo and Living Coasts in Torquay and offers a great discount.
