Will Beyonce Join The Ranks Of Celebrity Mommy Moguls?

Celebrity mom Kimora Lee Simmons and other experts discuss balancing motherhood and business.

<P>Now that <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyoncé</a> has added a new job to her résumé — mom — there's a slew of potential new projects the pop-star mogul might add to her ever-growing empire. Gwen Stefani, Madonna and Victoria Beckham are just a sampling of pop stars who have managed to write a whole new chapter into their careers thanks to motherhood.

</p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:724613.id:1676907" width="240" height="211"></div><p>

These celebs have expanded their personal brands to include children's clothing lines, books, songs and movies and have even revitalized themselves in their image as super-glam supermoms. As Beyoncé looks to the future and her role as <a href="/news/articles/1676906/beyonce-jay-z-baby-born-ivy-blue.jhtml">Blue Ivy</a>'s mama, mommy mogul Kimora Lee Simmons and Christopher Gavigan, who works with Jessica Alba on her Honest brand, talked to MTV News about the balance between parenthood and the business world.

"I always tell people I'm not the glamorous Hollywood mom," said Simmons, who continues to expand her own fashion brand to include the Shinto Clinical skin-care line. "I'm not the kind of celebrity that lives in the spotlight. I'm famous from work that I do. I've always been in the business and raised my family in the business so it's like a second nature for me. I think that's the key is striking a balance. For me it's always about prioritizing."

What's Simmons' advice for new celeb moms looking to follow her lead? "I think it's about choosing what you want and going after that. Do the best you can, but you don't have to be Superwoman."

And Simmons isn't the only Hollywood A-lister trying to do it all. Alba launched Honest with Gavigan to give moms a place to find eco-friendly products for their babies. "Jessica is like every other mom. Every other mom is a major multi-tasker," Gavigan said of working with the star. "Jessica was very in line with everyone, the average mom and dad out there."

"Find what you're passionate about and go do that," he advised to any future mom moguls. "You articulate that in a brand or in a way you feel from a business perspective that you feel you get your focus articulated in some meaningful or special way. A lot of it is partnerships and leveraging the greatest assets of each other."

With all that advice in mind, some celebrity experts weighed in on what B just might do now that she is a mom. "I think it's going to come very naturally for Beyoncé to emerge as this celebrity mom, just given all the current existing brand extensions she has," said David Caplan, who has worked at <i>Star</i> and <i>People</i> magazines. "Having a child will give her legitimacy, obviously, to the moms, and clearly there's lots and lots of money to be had there. So, I think you will see her lend her hand in the baby arena, whether it's her brand extensions intentionally or just emerging as some sort of Hollywood celebrity mom icon, which happens sometimes with these celebrity mothers.

"Whether it's intentional or not, I think she's definitely going to emerge as a celebrity mother icon," he continued. "And I'm sure she'll take advantage of that and invest in her brand."

A suggestion from another expert fits right in line with the first move her hubby, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/jay_z/artist.jhtml">Jay-Z</a>, made when he dropped his track <a href="/news/articles/1676945/blue-ivy-carter-new-jay-z-song-glory.jhtml">"Glory"</a> just says after Blue's birth, which features his <a href="/news/articles/1677033/blue-ivy-beyonce-jay-z-leaves-hospital.jhtml">baby girl</a>.
"I think that this is a woman that has tried terribly hard to keep her private life private," HuffPost celebrity columnist Rob Shuter said. "I think it'll be the same with her baby. I can't imagine her doing a Bethenny Frankel move."

Beyonce Mourns Etta James

‘She was fearless, and had guts. She will be missed,’ Beyonce writes on her blog.

<P><a href="/news/articles/1677610/etta-james-dead.jhtml">Etta James died</a> on Friday (January 20) at the age of 73 after a lengthy battle with leukemia. The singer is being remembered by <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/knowles_beyonce/artist.jhtml">Beyoncé</a>, who has quite the history with her.

</p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="vid:727109.id:1677649" width="240" height="211"></div><p>

"This is a huge loss. Etta James was one of the greatest vocalists of our time. I am so fortunate to have met such a queen," Beyoncé wrote on her <a href="http://www.beyonceonline.com/us/news/beyoncé-pays-tribute-eternally-great-etta-james" target="_blank">blog</a>. "Her musical contributions will last a lifetime. Playing Etta James taught me so much about myself, and singing her music inspired me to be a stronger artist. When she effortlessly opened her mouth, you could hear her pain and triumph. Her deeply emotional way of delivering a song told her story with no filter. She was fearless, and had guts. She will be missed."

<a href="http://www.mtv.com/photos/thumbnails.jhtml?fid=1677612&view=thumb"><b>Photos: The life and career of Etta James.</a></b>

B famously portrayed the blond jazz singer in the 2008 biopic "Cadillac Records." Her version of "At Last" from the film's soundtrack would later win a Grammy for Best Traditional R&B Performance.

Beyoncé's version of James' iconic ballad once-again made headlines when she performed the track at President Obama's inaugural ball in 2009. The performance was initially met with some criticism from the always-outspoken James, but she later came around.

Beyoncé is the latest in a long line of <a href="/news/articles/1677631/etta-james-dead-reactions.jhtml">celebrities paying tribute to James</a>. "Showing respect, appreciation and love for all the wonderful music and joy #ettajames brought to the world…#ettajamesforever," Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am wrote on Twitter.

Paramore frontwoman Hayley Williams recalled how James' music influenced her. "#EttaJames, I will be forever grateful for your voice and your soul. Rest in peace."
Rapper <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/flo_rida/artist.jhtml">Flo Rida</a> — whose latest hit, "Good Feeling," samples James' "Something's Got a Hold on Me" — wrote, "I'm deeply saddened by the passing of the Great Etta James and I will be forever grateful for the gift she Blessed me with."

<i>Share your condolences with Etta James' friends and family on our <a href="https://www.facebook.com/mtvnews" target="_blank">Facebook</a> page.</i></p>

Ke$ha Drops Lil Wayne, T.I., Wiz Khalifa ‘Sleazy’ Remix

Remix also features Andre 3000 and is a bit racier than the original track.

<P>As promised, <a href="http://www.mtv.com/music/artist/kesha_/artist.jhtml">Ke$ha</a> and her boys Lil Wayne, T.I., Wiz Khalifa and Andre 3000 dropped a new <a href="/news/articles/1672529/lil-wayne-kesha-ti-wiz-khalifa-remix.jhtml">remix of "Sleazy"</a> on Tuesday (December 13).

</p><div class="player-placeholder right" id="id:1661961" width="240" height="211"></div><p>

The Bangladesh-produced song originally appeared on K-Dollar's 2010 <a href="/news/articles/1651081/keha-gets-sleazy-on-new-cannibal-track.jhtml"><i>Cannibal</i> album</a> before a <a href="/news/articles/1656039/andre-3000-pops-up-on-kehas-sleazy-remix.jhtml">remix featuring Andre</a> popped up earlier this year. The latest version of the song is available for purchase and is all over blogs like <a href="http://www.rap-up.com/2011/12/12/new-music-kesha-f-wiz-khalifa-andre-3000-ti-lil-wayne-sleazy-remix/" target="_blank">Rap-Up.com</a>. The song gets a bit dirtier and introspective thanks to verses from the guys that play up the track's bumping beat.

Wiz kicks it off, rapping about designer clothes and his lady love, Amber Rose. "OK, I'm young and I'm tatted/ I get them bucks like an addict/ Rocking this Christian Dior/ I spend so much on my fabric/ I got a wifey at home/ And what she wants she can have it," he spits before going on about chilling on the beach, being rich and his prowess in the bedroom.

Sitting in between Wiz and Tip is Andre's recycled verse, before T.I. gets his shot and gets sexy, asking Ke$ha, "Do you know what to do with me?" before he launches into a verse all about how good he is to the ladies. "Bad bitches know me/ So don't bother introducing me/ They want me more than diamonds," he brags before explaining that it has a lot to do with his impressive anatomy.

Wayne closes it out, adding his own signature flair. "We be on that sh– that no one be on/ That's what we on/ Smoke that neon, Kings of Leon/ Dynamite, Napoleon/ Got some skinnies and a tee on/ And some Vans," he rhymes about his famous sense of Weezy-fied style before the song circles back to the funky chorus, where Ke$ha declares that she doesn't "need you or your brand-new Benz/ Or your bougie friends/ I don't need love lookin' like diamonds/ Lookin' like diamonds."

If any of K's fans or critics were wondering if she has the swagger to chill with the guys, she displayed some of her sass when she <a href="http://twitter.com/#!/KESHASUXX" target="_blank">tweeted</a> about the remix. "Question ANIMALS … who can say they got with Lil Wayne, T.I., Andre 3000 and Wiz Khalifa on a f—ing hot track??" she asked. "ill give u one clue … Its $."

Lady Gaga Gushes About Beyonce’s Future Motherhood Skills1676799

‘My next baby will be my new record,’ singer says of her own motherhood plans.

By Jocelyn Vena

Lady Gaga and Beyoncé are besties, and when the Mother Monster sat down with “The Insider,” she gushed about her pal’s skills as a soon-to-be mommy.

“Of course she is [going to be a good mom]. That’s a tremendous understatement,” the singer said. “She’s the nicest female I’ve met in the industry. She’s wonderful!”

The two have quite the history together. Gaga and Beyoncé have appeared on two tracks (and in two videos) together for “Telephone” and “Video Phone.” And while Beyoncé is nearing motherhood, Gaga admits she wants to wait a bit longer before giving birth to anything — but new music, that is.
“Someday. Long, long day from now!” she said. “My next baby will be my new record.”

When MTV News caught up with Gaga last month, she opened up about her plans to release the follow-up to Born This Way. “I’ve started writing it and I have the name for it and all the concepts are beginning to flourish and take place,” she told MTV News.

But much like Beyoncé and her baby, a due date for the Mother Monster’s next album is still to be determined. “I’m excited to put it out, but it’s not done yet. So I’ll put it out when it’s done.”

Meanwhile, one psychic who spoke to MTV News helped us try to nail down just when we should expect Jayoncé’s baby. “I feel that Beyoncé’s 2012 is going to be very, very exciting,” Jesse Bravo told MTV News. “I get the date of January 8 to January 14 of her giving birth to her first son.”

When do you think Jayoncé’s baby will come? Make your predictions in the comments!

Beyonce Slinks Around In ‘Dance For You’ Teases

Full-length video will be featured on deluxe edition of B’s ‘Live at Roseland’ DVD.
By Jocelyn Vena

Beyoncé in “Dance For You”

Beyoncé just wants to “Dance for You” in new teases for her 4 album track. The sexy video will be featured in the deluxe edition of Queen B’s “Live at Roseland” DVD special, out November 29.

In two clips posted on Aceshowbiz.com, Beyoncé dons hot pants, garters and a slinky wrap dress as she performs a sexy dance routine on a desk. The video has a film noir vibe, as a private eye-type character watches Beyoncé as she dances.
In the other tease, Beyoncé, in the same outfit, dances seductively in front of a chair as the camera cuts to the detective fellow watching her.

“Dance for You” is one of three tracks featured as bonus material on the deluxe version of 4, along with “Lay Up Under Me” and “Schoolin’ Life.” The track was produced by The-Dream and features writing credits from Tricky Stewart as well as Beyoncé. It’s a sexy R&B jam about keeping things hot with her man. On it, she sings, “Tonight I’m gonna dance for you/ Tonight I’m gonna dance for you/ Tonight I’m gonna put my body on your body/ Boy, I like it when you watch me/ Tonight it’s going down.”

“Live at Roseland” was filmed in August over four shows performed at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City. It features Beyoncé recounting anecdotes about her career while she performs some of her older tracks, before launching into a nonstop performance of 4 played straight through.

The standard edition of “Live at Roseland” hit shelves this week, along with concert specials from Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift. Adele also drops her “Live at Royal Albert Hall” DVD on November 29.

Justin Bieber Should ‘Stay Strong,’ Usher Says

‘All of this comes with the territory,’ Ush tells MTV News of paternity-suit drama.
By Jocelyn Vena

Justin Bieber and Usher

Photo: Ben Rose/ WireImage

Usher might not have known how big Justin Bieber would become when he discovered him a few years back, but he was pretty sure he had found something special.

Since Bieber burst on the scene with his My World EP back in 2009, the 17-year-old has grown up with the world watching. He’s gone from up-and-comer to full-fledged pop sensation, racking up chart-topping albums and a box-office hit and becoming an all-around mega-heartthrob — all in two years.

Of course, with the good does come negative attention as well. Recently, Bieber was hit with a paternity lawsuit, which has since been dropped.

Usher, no stranger to his own controversies, had these words for the Biebs: “Stay strong. And know that all of this comes with the territory.”

Aside from the drama, Usher is especially proud of Bieber’s charitable side. His mentor said he “absolutely” knew the kid from Stratford, Ontario, had a big heart from the start.

“To write a check is only half of it, but when you truly take on a responsibility to be a philanthropist, you accept an effort, and I really think that Pencils of Promise is something that has a very bright future,” Usher told MTV News at an event for the charity, noting that Bieber is a only a small part of it.

Usher — who appears on Bieber’s new Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe — gives credit to the folks surrounding the teen superstar, including manager Scooter Braun. “Just judging from the determination and the will power of the entire team around Justin, I see a very, very promising [future] for him as a philanthropist,” Usher said.

Just days after it was leaked on Friday, Britney Spears and her femme fatales, Nicki Minaj and Ke$ha, dropped their official remix of “Till the World Ends.”

The new version of the song was produced by Dr. Luke and Dream Machine. Brit half-whispers ” ‘Till the World Ends’ remix” before the beat kicks in and Nicki hits her verse hard. She spits fierce lines like, “Sniff, sniff, cries/ I done slayed your whole entire f—ing life.”

Then Britney’s sex-kitten vocals kick in for the song’s first verse. “That’s Britney, bitch! I’m Nicki Minaj and that’s Ke$ha,” the Queens MC declares before K sings the chorus. The beat is harder, the loops are sassier and the song is grimier than the original version, which was the second single from Femme Fatale. The newly added dubstep portion takes the one from “Hold It Against Me” to a new level by adding in bass-heavy synths.

Ke$ha, of course, wrote the track for Britney, and the ladies certainly don’t seem to mind sharing the spotlight with each other. The official track isn’t much different than the version that leaked over the weekend, though Spears did have something brand-new to share with her fans just as the song dropped on iTunes and streamed on her website.

Spears tweeted the artwork for the single, which features the original press photo of Spears along with separate photos of Nicki on the left and Ke$ha on the right. Spears wrote, “@NickiMinaj @Keshasuxx Too much fierceness for one cover! Thanks for lending your voices girls… #TTWEREMIX — Brit”

Spears and Minaj have been hanging out a lot in the lead-up to their summer tour. They hung out at the Factory nightclub on Friday night after Minaj’s show in Los Angeles. Spears later wrote, “Early rehearsal after a late night with my girl @NickiMinaj. Can’t WAIT to get out on the road with you.”

Britney Spears’ ‘Criminal’ Director Talks Gun Controversy

When Britney Spears hit London to shoot her “Criminal” video, she caused quite a stir. The singer immediately was criticized by local officials for her use of a gun in the sexy, crime-fantasy clip. Spears addressed the issue, shrugging off the controversy, and this week, fans finally got to see what all the fuss was about when the steamy clip dropped.

MTV News spoke to the video’s director, Chris Marrs Piliero, who said he was surprised the video’s gunplay became such a big deal.

“Holding the gun became a controversial thing ’cause we filmed it in London, and they don’t have a lot of gun use out there,” he explained. “That doesn’t mean that there’s no gun use, so I did find it really interesting. For me, the thing is, it blew me away that members of [the British] Parliament were speaking about this. One, because it’s a music video, and two, because don’t you guys have television shows out there that show crime?

“It’s really strange to me,” he continued, adding just what bothered him most about the controversy: “I don’t understand why pop stars are put on such a high pedestal over other celebrities. Why do members of Parliament feel that they need to scrutinize her for having a gun, and ‘She’s in the public,’ and ‘She should know better,’ and ‘She’s a role model,’ but what about every other celebrity out there? What about every other actor? That’s very strange to me. I was really surprised at how much the gun use was scrutinized.”

Plus, Piliero said it makes sense that the couple, played by Britney and her real-life boyfriend, Jason Trawick, are using guns. “He’s a professional criminal, so it makes sense he has a gun,” the director said. “We shouldn’t censor ourselves.”

Beyonce’s ‘Countdown’ Baby Bump Wasn’t Planned

‘I believe she had a number of commitments and had not anticipated her special arrival,’ director Adria Petty tells MTV News.

In case you didn’t notice, Beyoncé‘s rocking one major baby bump in her “Countdown” video.

The clip, co-directed by Adria Petty, features not only several references to the ’60s but also a smiling Beyoncé showing off her pregnancy.

Find out what else the director had to say about the video shoot!

“When you work with Beyoncé, you are not only working with an intelligent and strongly collaborative individual but you are also usually battling with time and the given circumstances in her work life at that moment and, in this case, her personal life,” Petty told MTV News last Friday. “So it’s an evolving process that remains flexible,” she explained. “The target we are always trying to hit is something that feels good and genuine for her.”

When it came to B’s look, Petty said the baby bump was pretty much inescapable. “When we first started shooting, she had not made that announcement and I do not believe that was the goal. But as the process evolved, I believe she wanted that to be celebrated in the video,” she said.

The director added, “It was shot per Beyoncé’s availability over a couple of months. She did her Roseland shows and the MTV Awards in the interim. I believe she had a number of commitments and had not anticipated her special arrival.”

Despite having a baby onboard, Beyoncé bounces around in the “Countdown video — a lot. And it’s that joie de vivre that’s captured in the candy-coated clip. “I believe the video speaks for itself. But it is mostly just fun, flirty stuff that feels good for B,” Petty said. “I think it is iconic, playful and romantic like the song itself.”

Of the many set-ups in the video, Petty shared her favorite with us. “My favorite scenes are the ‘me and my boo’ scenes, the hipster dance and the sort of avant-garde, ‘Flashdance’ stuff. The amazing, cool cat choreographer Frank Gatson Jr. and I worked hard in rehearsals to get those grooves going,” she said. “And they make me super happy and were really fun to shoot.”

While fans buzz about “Countdown,” the busy mom-to-be is already preparing to drop her next video, for “Love on Top.”
