Madonna Praises Lady Gaga’s ‘Rawness’

Queen of Pop opens up about the Mother Monster on ‘The Graham Norton Show.’

Here in the States, Madonna sat down with ABC News and had some interesting comments about Lady Gaga. In another interview, on Friday’s (January 13) “The Graham Norton Show,” the singer seemed to take the high road and likened her early days of hustling in New York City to Gaga‘s beginnings.

“When I first saw her, I saw her performing at a very small club in Manhattan a couple of years ago, maybe it was like three years ago,” she said. “I was actually really impressed by her. I thought she was really cool and she did remind me of me back in the day. I liked her rawness and there was something fresh about there and ballsy, and when she spoke to the audience, she sounded like she had a similar sense of humor to me, quite ironic, and I liked her. So I do think she is very talented.”

That was really the end of the subject during their chat, other than when Madonna teased the British talk-show host about naming his dog after her. However, when he said his other dog was named Bailey, she quipped, “Not Gaga?”

Some of that sentiment was mirrored in Madge’s ABC interview, the rest of which airs on Friday’s night’s 20/20. While she did call Gaga’s “Born This Way” song “reductive” when asked about comparisons to her own “Express Yourself,” she went on to say that she sees a lot of her own work in Gaga’s.

“I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it’s amusing and flattering and well-done,” she said, later adding that she thinks Gaga is “a very talented artist” and that she’s making a “statement about taking something that was in the zeitgeist, you know, 20 years ago and turning it inside out and reinterpreting it.”

Madonna is currently making the rounds promoting her next album, M.D.N.A., as well as her film “W.E.”

Lady Gaga Gushes About Beyonce’s Future Motherhood Skills1676799

‘My next baby will be my new record,’ singer says of her own motherhood plans.

By Jocelyn Vena

Lady Gaga and Beyoncé are besties, and when the Mother Monster sat down with “The Insider,” she gushed about her pal’s skills as a soon-to-be mommy.

“Of course she is [going to be a good mom]. That’s a tremendous understatement,” the singer said. “She’s the nicest female I’ve met in the industry. She’s wonderful!”

The two have quite the history together. Gaga and Beyoncé have appeared on two tracks (and in two videos) together for “Telephone” and “Video Phone.” And while Beyoncé is nearing motherhood, Gaga admits she wants to wait a bit longer before giving birth to anything — but new music, that is.
“Someday. Long, long day from now!” she said. “My next baby will be my new record.”

When MTV News caught up with Gaga last month, she opened up about her plans to release the follow-up to Born This Way. “I’ve started writing it and I have the name for it and all the concepts are beginning to flourish and take place,” she told MTV News.

But much like Beyoncé and her baby, a due date for the Mother Monster’s next album is still to be determined. “I’m excited to put it out, but it’s not done yet. So I’ll put it out when it’s done.”

Meanwhile, one psychic who spoke to MTV News helped us try to nail down just when we should expect Jayoncé’s baby. “I feel that Beyoncé’s 2012 is going to be very, very exciting,” Jesse Bravo told MTV News. “I get the date of January 8 to January 14 of her giving birth to her first son.”

When do you think Jayoncé’s baby will come? Make your predictions in the comments!

Lady Gaga New Year’s Eve Performance: Watch Now!

For native New Yorker Lady Gaga, it was a dream come true.

The singer performed live in Times Square on New Year’s Eve, treating Little Monsters to a medley of “Heavy Metal Lover,” “Marry the Night” and “Born This Way.”

She began the routine in a costume that looked like a cross between Jabba the Hutt, a giant squid and a sequined Pac-Man. Your guess is as good as ours really.

Soon enough, she changed to a (relatively, for Gaga) normal black body suit, Catwoman mask and globe-structure thing. Watch her NYE performance below:

Gaga later helped NYC Mayor Bloomberg push the button to drop the Times Square ball after changing into a sparkly Versace number. What a way to start 2012!

Always emotional but rarely like this, she got a little choked up talking to Ryan Seacrest about the whole thing. Check out her brief interview after the jump:

Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber Top ‘Celebs Gone Good’

DoSomething.org’s annual list ranks the 20 most charity-friendly stars.
By Terri Schwartz

Lady Gaga, Justin Bieber and George Clooney better have received something nice from Santa this year, because they certainly weren’t on his naughty list. Those three toplined DoSomething.org‘s Top 20 Celebs Gone Good, the organization’s annual roundup of the most charity-friendly stars in the business.

This is Gaga’s second year in a row at the #1 spot. In 2011 she dedicated much of her time to putting an end to bullying and even started a new charitable organization called Born This Way. The “Marry the Night” singer did plenty more to help out those less fortunate in 2011, including auctioning off a nude sketch for charity and performing at the Bill Clinton Foundation fundraiser.

However, this was really Bieber’s year to shine. He rocketed up DoSomething.org’s list from #10 last year to #2 this year. It helps that Bieber donated some of his profits from his Christmas album, Under the Mistletoe, and his self-named perfume to various charitable organizations. Bieber also kept up his work with Pencils of Promise, a group that has built 41 schools in Laos, Nicaragua and Guatemala and was founded by his manager’s brother.

Rounding out the top five were Will and Jada Pinkett Smith and Leonardo DiCaprio. This was a year for celeb power couples, with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie clocking at #8, Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore at #12 and newlyweds Blake Shelton and Miranda Lambert at #14.

Other notable standouts this year were Demi Lovato at #10, Lea Michele making her charitable debut at #16, Daniel Radcliffe at #17, Miley Cyrus at #18 and Taylor Swift rounding out the list at #20.

Lady Gaga, Britney, Taylor Swift, Beyonce Drop Concert DVDs

Four pop divas released concert specials on Monday — just in time for Black Friday!
By Jocelyn Vena

Taylor Swift

Music fans planning to burn off those post-Thanksgiving calories with some holiday shopping are in luck: Some of pop’s biggest divas dropped live DVDs on Monday (November 21): Beyoncé, Lady Gaga, Taylor Swift and Britney Spears all have concert specials out, just in time for your Black Friday wish list. Here, MTV News breaks down the four releases (and one more to watch out for).

Taylor Swift
Just as Taylor wraps up her Speak Now Tour this week, the American Music Award winner is releasing “Speak Now World Tour – Live.” The 18-song DVD features Swift performing some of her biggest tracks during that arena-filling trek. And if that’s not enough Taylor, there’s also a 16-song CD that fans can snatch up.

Beyoncé
Filmed over four shows in New York, weeks before B announced her pregnancy at the VMAs, the “Live at Roseland” DVD special shows the Queen B recounting some of the greatest moments of her career before launching into a nonstop live performance of her 4 album. It also includes behind-the-scenes footage that gives fans their first look at the wedding dress Beyoncé wore the day she married Jay-Z.

Lady Gaga
Lady Gaga is giving her little monsters a front row seat to her epic Monster Ball Tour. Filmed during stops at Madison Square Garden earlier this year, the concert originally aired on HBO and earned the pop star an Emmy. The DVD also includes previously unseen material that didn’t make the final cut on HBO. In addition, Gaga is releasing a new album, Born This Way – The Remix, today.

Britney Spears
After debuting her Femme Fatale live concert special on Epix earlier this month, Spears is releasing the spectacle on DVD this week for those who may have missed it. Full of costume changes, swirling dance numbers and a sexy lap dance, this special is perfect for the Brit enthusiast.

One to Pre-Order: Adele

A fifth diva will get into the game on Cyber Monday. On November 28, Adele drops her own concert special, “Live at the Royal Albert Hall.” And given that it might be a while before the singer hits the road again (she’s on the mend from throat surgery), the DVD will at least give fans a taste of Adele’s live stage show.

Lady Gaga Cuts Ties With Laurieann Gibson

Gibson had been Gaga’s creative director for several years.
By Gil Kaufman

After a long and fruitful creative partnership, Lady Gaga has broken ties with creative director Laurieann Gibson. The Hollywood Reporter confirmed the split, which came after reports that the two women had a serious falling out.

Gibson has been part of Gaga’s inner circle since well before the singer became an international superstar, beginning with the choreography for the 2008 “Beautiful, Dirty, Rich” video and continuing through the soon-to-be famous steps in clips for “Just Dance,” “Poker Face,” “Love Game,” “Paparazzi” and “Bad Romance.”

The pair were closely associated throughout Gaga’s rise to fame, with Gibson providing the choreography and artistic input on such landmark videos as “Telephone,” “Alejandro” and “Born This Way.” Gibson, who previously appeared on MTV’s “Making the Band” with Diddy and the “Starmaker” reality show, has been stepping out on her own lately, including a starring role in the BET dance competition show “Born to Dance” and another dance reality series, E!’s “The Dance Scene.”

Gibson also co-directed the Gaga videos for “Judas” and “You and I,” (http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1669175/lady-gaga-laurieann-gibson-you-and-i-video.jhtml) but the women reportedly clashed on the set of the former, with Gibson expressing discomfort with the religious imagery in the clip. According to the Reporter, the tension was already showing during the filming of the “Judas” video, during which Gibson told the magazine, “At one point, there was two completely different views and after the third glass of wine, I was like, ‘Listen, I don’t want lightning to strike me. I believe in the Gospel and I’m not going there.”

She was less adamant when talking to MTV News about the controversy, expressing pride in the final product. “I think the concept stuck with this one because, ultimately, there was a place where we wanted to leave the interpretation up to each individual and not take away [Gaga's] power as a performer, as a dancer, as a star,” Gibson explained, alluding to the creative clashes the pair had about the “Born This Way” video. “And to leave the moments for you to interpret and be inspired by the fact that everyone has a Judas in their life and that there is a place of deliverance. For me, I interpret differently than her, and for someone else, they’ll interpret it differently.”

A spokesperson for Gaga confirmed the split for MTV News.

Gibson also spoke out after she and Gaga failed to see eye-to-eye on the concept for the “Edge of Glory” video. After reports that video vet Joseph Kahn would be directing, Gaga instead went for a simpler cityscape treatment that drew some fire from fans. “Listen u disrespectful f–k they had an issue on set I don’t lie!!!!!”, Gibson tweeted at the time . “Creative Changes happen always educate ignorant Monster’s!!!”

The Reporter noted that relations between the two continued to fray this summer over disagreements about the “You and I” video and Gaga seemed to confirm the end with a November 6 tweet in which she announced that Gibson’s former #2, Richard Jackson, is her new choreographer.
