On Monday, March 12, from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m. ET, MTV.com will be streaming live with host Josh Horowitz from the red-carpet premiere of “The Hunger Games” outside of Los Angeles’ famed Nokia Theatre. Josh will be talking to all of your favorite “Hunger Games” stars, from Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth to Elizabeth Banks, Wes Bentley and Woody Harrelson (and everyone in between).

Throughout the show, Josh will be joined by MTV News’ Christina Garibaldi and Down With the Capitol fan-site editor Arianna Ruiz for expert fashion and fan commentary. Fans will also be treated to never-before-seen interviews with the cast and the film’s director, four-time Oscar nominee Gary Ross.

You can even get in on all the action live via Twitter by using the @mtvnews handle and hashtag #askhg to get your burning “Hunger Games” questions answered.

Set in a dystopian world in the country of Panem, where North America once existed, “The Hunger Games” is the story of Katniss Everdeen, who is chosen as a “Tribute” to represent District 12 in the annual Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games is a nationally televised event in which Tributes — one teenage boy and girl chosen from each of the country’s 12 districts — must fight one another until only one survivor remains.

Pitted against highly trained Tributes who have prepared for the Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy.
If she’s ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love.

Lionsgate will release the film on March 23, 2012. Before then, MTV News has a ton of “Hunger Games” content for you to check out. We have full interviews with Lawrence, Hutcherson and several other castmembers, commentary on the film’s trailers and the latest breaking news on one of the year’s biggest films. And don’t miss our MTV First with Taylor Swift, where she discusses her contribution to the “Hunger Games” soundtrack, “Safe & Sound.”

‘Hunger Games’ Is ‘Very Emotional,’ Elizabeth Banks Says

‘We really are attached to everybody’s journey, and so I’m really excited to see how that all plays out,’ actress tells MTV News.
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Elizabeth Banks

It’s hard not to love Elizabeth Banks. She’s smart, funny, pretty, makes great choices with her roles in film and television and just seems like an all-around great person. And although we’ve been fans of Banks’ work for years, it’s her role as Effie Trinkett in “The Hunger Games” that has us almost bouncing off the walls with excitement.

When MTV News caught up with Banks recently, we asked what scenes she’s most looking forward to see on the big screen when the film opens March 23.

“I have not seen much of the arena, so I’m excited to see the actual Games. It’s very emotional. We really become very attached to the characters, even Cato and Thresh, kind of the bad guys of the book,” Banks said. “We really are attached to everybody’s journey, and so I’m really excited to see how that all plays out.”

Banks said that, for her part, the Reaping was the most challenging and fulfilling sequence to shoot.

“The Reaping is amazing. We get so see a heroine step forward and show herself for the first time and come to life, and it was a really remarkable scene to shoot. It was difficult to shoot under insane conditions, about 105 degrees the couple days we shot it. We had all these young kids there dropping like flies,” Banks recalled. “It was madness, and it’s also the only time we spend in District 12.”

Banks added that the best way to take the edge off the extreme temperatures and conditions during the filming of the Reaping was to lighten the mood between takes.

“I think whenever it’s difficult, one of my favorite ways to deal with it is to joke around. We take the work seriously, but we try not to take ourselves too seriously. Woody [Harrelson] is a great partner in crime,” she said of her humorous co-star. “He tells really off-color jokes and is fantastically self-deprecating and fun to be around.”

‘Hunger Games’ Stars Talk Most-Anticipated Sequel Scenes

Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson also reveal to MTV News who they would have liked to play if not Katniss and Peeta.
By Kara Warner with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Josh Hutcherson and Jennifer Lawrence

Another day, another juicy segment of our interview with the cast of “The Hunger Games” to roll out and examine. Tuesday’s (February 7) installment has a slight caveat, however. For those who have yet to read Suzanne Collins’ book “Catching Fire” — the follow-up to “The Hunger Games” — please take this as a friendly warning that the proceeding comments from stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson veer heavily into spoiler territory for the tentatively planned big-screen sequel.

When MTV News caught up with Lawrence and Hutcherson recently, we asked them what they hope to see in a sequel. Lawrence quickly brought up a very big step in the relationship between Katniss and Peeta.

“We get married!” the actress exclaimed, looking at Hutcherson and pointing to her ring finger with girlish enthusiasm.

“[It's] very exciting,” Hutcherson said, though we detected a bit of hesitation in his voice.

Lawrence revealed that she did the “ring finger move” to Hutcherson whenever she wanted to annoy him on set. “God, I sound really annoying whenever I talk about myself in the past,” she admitted. The Oscar nominee then apologized to Hutcherson, who seemed genuinely entertained by her commentary.

Looking even further ahead, past “Catching Fire,” we asked about talk that the third book might be split into two films. “It’s always hard, every time you convert a novel into movies, because you have to cut so much out,” Lawrence said. “[So], in a weird way it’s kind of a relief because you get to keep everything in there. It is a lot more work [to shoot four films] and we’ll probably do them back-to-back.”

Finally, we asked the two stars if they had to play another “Hunger Games” character besides their own which they would choose.

“I would probably say President Snow,” Hutcherson said. “If I were President Snow, I could make some changes and give some power back to the people.”

“Well, now I’m left with a goat,” Jennifer joked of the dwindling character options. “Umm.”

“Effie has great style,” Hutcherson offered.

“Effie! That’s it,” Lawrence agreed about the pink-haired District 12 escort played by Elizabeth Banks. “God, yeah Effie. Thanks!”

Who would you have cast Jennifer and Josh as in “The Hunger Games,” besides Katniss and Peeta? Tell us in the comments!

Richard Armitage’s Journey To ‘The Hobbit’ Best ‘By Far’

The U.K. actor is Middle-earth’s most badass dwarf and One to Watch in 2012.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

Richard Armitage in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey”

Photo: New Line Productions

This winter, director Peter Jackson will deliver the long-awaited return to Middle-earth. “The Hobbit,” which will unfold across two films, begins with “An Unexpected Journey,” as Bilbo Baggins leaves to win back gold stolen from his companions. But these are not just any friends. Bilbo is accompanied by 13 dwarves, each with a larger-than-life personality.

The leader of these adventurers, Thorin, will be played by Richard Armitage, who made a brief appearance in “Captain America: The First Avenger,” but will get his biggest Stateside break in “The Hobbit.” The British actor played a key role in last month’s trailer and will soon join the illustrious ranks of Tolkien alumni, alongside Viggo Mortensen, Sean Bean and Orlando Bloom.

We spoke with Armitage about traveling to Middle-earth, the difficulty of working under pounds of makeup and leading a band of treasure-seeking dwarves.

MTV: Congratulations on being named to MTV’s Ones to Watch!

Richard Armitage: Thank you very much!

MTV: Where are you currently in the filming schedule?

Armitage: We just finished up our second block, so we start again at the end of January, and then we go — we think it’s the end of July. Then there’s a bit more in 2013, we reckon.

MTV: What’s it like being on a single project for so long?

Armitage: It’s really weird because when we started it was just this enormous mountain to climb, but actually, it’s going so fast. I think we’ve gotten to the halfway point now. It’s been really intense but so exciting. We literally just finished our location shoot that we’ve been out on the road seeing most of New Zealand. It’s been the best thing I’ve ever worked on in my life, by far.

MTV: Is it easy to forget you’re acting? Do you get lost in the world the production creates?

Armitage: The soundstages they made in Wellington, [New Zealand], most of the time it doesn’t feel like we’ve been working on a set. Even when there’s a green screen there, Peter’s vision of it is so clear and his description of it is so clear. The pre-production CGI that they’ve already created really fires up your imagination. That was the shoot we started with. On location, it’s just theirs to program these amazing images into your head, so we can now take them back into the studio.

MTV: Will it be hard to leave behind once you’ve wrapped?

Armitage: It don’t think it will be possible to leave it behind me. I think this is one of those characters that always stay with you because you spend so much time with him and it’s such a transformation. I’m in the character every day, and I’ve become so familiar with him. I sort of know how he thinks. I feel really close to the character, and he will continue beyond this job , [spoiler ahead] even though, he dies at the end of the movie. I think he is a fascinating character. I will probably wake up in six years’ time and be inspired to think about him again. It’s really exciting.

MTV: How did your previous knowledge of the story change how you approached Thorin?

Armitage: I read it quite a few times when I was young. I think going back to it as an adult is really interesting because it is a book that was, I think, was written for Tolkien’s children, but when you’re creating a piece on this scale, you have to really visualize it for a much broader audience. I think that’s the beauty of Tolkien. He does create very well-rounded, quite dangerous characters to play his protagonists. He risks scaring kids. He’s the original fantasy creator, and I think you have to invest those characters with the same gravity as if you were making a piece for adults. It was interesting coming back to it as an adult, re-reading it again, because it did have a simplicity to it, which I really like. I felt we could take those characters and really develop them beyond the book.

MTV: You ended up with middle ground in terms of the amount of makeup. Did you feel lucky?

Armitage: It did evolve. We all started with quite an extreme version of ourselves. I think because my character does spend a lot of time onscreen and you really have to understand what he’s going through emotionally, it became clear that if we started make the prosthetic as close to my features as possible but still make him a dwarf, it would be much easier to read the character. He has to go on such a journey, it was really important to do that. I grew my own beard after the first block because I felt that it was restricting my face. The jaw is so connected to emotion that I wanted to have that free. It made such a huge difference.

It’s really weird now because I can’t play the character when I haven’t gotten everything on. It’s very hard to rehearse when you’re not in costume, when you haven’t gotten the prosthetics on, but I look in the mirror when it’s all finished and I don’t see it. I can’t see where it starts and where it ends. I just see the character. I’ve never had that before. It’s such a unique experience. It’s a face that doesn’t belong to me. It belongs to WETA workshop and the people that created it.

MTV: How was it on set with so many actors playing the dwarves?

Armitage: I love it. I absolutely love working as an ensemble member, and we really are an ensemble. There’s great camaraderie among all the guys. There is such a diversity of culture and background. We’re working with a lot of Kiwis, and there’s real mixture of British actors who come from television and theater and film. It’s exactly as the dwarves are. When Thorin assembles the quest, he pulls dwarves from all different places to go on this quest. That’s mirrored in who we are as actors.

What are you waiting for? Your must-see movie needs your support. It’s time to show character, poise and heart. Vote for your picks now at MTV Movie Brawl 2012!

Jennifer Lawrence Selected To Announce Oscar Nods

‘Hunger Games’ star was up for Best Actress at the 2011 Academy Awards.

Jennifer Lawrence has been selected by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to announce this year’s Oscar nominees.

The “Hunger Games” actress will be joined by Academy President Tom Sherak at the Samuel Goldwyn Theater in Beverly Hills on January 24 to reveal just who will be up for one of those coveted gold statues, the Academy announced on Monday (January 9). The show, airing on ABC, is set to take place on February 26 with host Billy Crystal.

Lawrence was up for Best Actress at the 2011 show for her star-making turn in “Winter’s Bone.” While she lost to “Black Swan” star Natalie Portman, she made headlines thanks to her body-hugging red dress.

She’s next set to star in “The Hunger Games,” set for release on March 23. The same day her Oscars gig was announced, Lionsgate announced plans for pre-sale tickets for the highly anticipated flick, which also stars Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth. For those hungry to get their hands on tickets early, advanced sales kick off on February 22.

When Lawrence was first cast in the film, which is based on the beloved novels by Suzanne Collins, fans had some reservations about whether she could fully embody the books’ heroine, Katniss Everdeen. “I wasn’t aware that everybody was so upset until I after I got my hair dyed, and people were like, ‘Oh my gosh, blond hair can turn brown. Wow. It’s a miracle,’ ” Lawrence told MTV News in May of last year.

Daniel Radcliffe ‘Threw Himself’ Into ‘Woman In Black’

‘I found it incredibly exciting seeing Dan playing such a mature role,’ screenwriter Jane Goldman tells MTV News.
By Kevin P. Sullivan

Later this month, Daniel Radcliffe will leave the friendly ghosts of Hogwarts behind in favor of a much darker haunting. His first major post-”Potter” role comes with the adaptation of Susan Hill’s beloved Victorian ghost story “The Woman in Black.”

The film represents a major challenge for Radcliffe and his star persona. It’s his biggest movie release as a mere leading Muggle, and fans want to know: Can “The Woman in Black” help Radcliffe make the all-important leap from child star to adult actor? “Woman in Black” screenwriter Jane Goldman thinks so.

“It’s an extraordinary achievement,” she said. “I think we were all just blown away by his performance. I think that’s going to be pretty exciting for his fans.”

Goldman recently made a name for herself penning some of the most successful comic book adaptations in recent years. Her writing credit appears on “Kick-Ass” and “X-Men: First Class,” as well as spy thriller “The Debt.”

Radcliffe’s role presents something entirely different for the actor, who, believe it or not, plays a father and widower in the film. This stark change really stands out for Goldman, considering that Radcliffe played a younger character in the last few “Potter” films. “In a sense, with the last few years of ‘Potter,’ he was playing younger than he is,” she said. “He is a young man, but he also threw himself totally into this ['Woman in Black'] role, and the fact that he’s so believable as a widower and as a father [is impressive].”

What excited Goldman most about Radcliffe’s performance was the maturity he brought to it. “I found it incredibly exciting seeing Dan playing such a mature role,” she said. “I think that will be a fun and really interesting thing for his audience to see. He’s really playing a man.”

‘Breaking Dawn’ Reveals Make Best ‘Twilight’ Year Yet

‘Twilight Tuesday’ rounds up video of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner talking the wedding, honeymoon and being shirtless.
By Kara Warner

We knew 2011 was going to be a big year in the world of “Twilight” news. The fanbase seemed to keep growing by the hour, as did the excitement surrounding the release of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn- Part 1.” The release of a new “Twilight” film also meant that we’d be seeing a lot of the blockbuster franchise’s superstars as they promoted the film — and, boy, was MTV News lucky with how much time we ended up spending with Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and the rest of the gang this year. As such, this week’s “Twilight Tuesday” is dedicated to the best and brightest of those interviews with our favorite stars.

Our first encounter with a “Twilight” star was our chat with Pattinson at the Golden Globes, during which he provided us with a giggly reaction to the first “Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ still of Bella and Edward in bed, as well as his positive reviews of Stewart playing a vampire. “It’s like she wanted to do it the entire time,” he told us. “It’s really funny, it’s like a completely different environment on set when she’s a vampire and when she’s not. I think she’s going to do it really well.”

There were also plenty of teases about the film’s most highly anticipated scenes, including the wedding of Edward and Bella and the honeymoon sex scene. Of seeing Stewart in a wedding dress during the filming of their characters’ nuptials, Pattinson said, “She looked amazing. I really didn’t do much than just stand there.”

Stewart later said of the experience: “It was very, very emotional for me.”

Pattinson added, “You kind of realize what the groom’s position in a wedding is, which, in reality, is basically a prop. You stand there in a suit, and then everyone is looking at the girl.”

One scene in which everyone was most certainly not just looking at the girl is the first sex scene between Edward and Bella on their wedding night. “I think we had some really interesting ideas about [the love scene],” Pattinson said when we caught up with him at the “Water for Elephants” press junket. “It’s kind of interesting, as well, having to do it in the context of PG-13. It makes it more interesting.”

Speaking to all the hype about the big moment, Pattinson said that although there was a lot of pressure to deliver some major fireworks in the scene, he was confident he’d give a convincing performance. “That’s the one time I have felt like the coolest person,” Pattinson admitted with a laugh. “I was like, ‘This is easy!’ I can fulfill people’s sexual fantasy expectations without even thinking, piece of cake. That isn’t acting,” he joked. “The only thing [that was difficult] is the vanity aspect,” Pattinson continued. “Taylor [Lautner] just ruined the whole series for me. As soon as he buffed up, I’m like, ‘Well, I’m throwing in the towel’ on ‘New Moon.’ ”

Speaking of Lautner and his chiseled abs, the heartthrob told us that he had to actively campaign to director Bill Condon and the powers that be to limit his amount of shirtlessness in the film, much to the disappointment of his devoted fan following.

“I got it down to one time, one time in the movie, and it literally lasts for two seconds,” Lautner said proudly of his single shirtless shot. “There was some negotiating for sure. There was more [shirtless scenes] when I read the original script, trust me,” he said. “And I got it down to a very, very small amount, which I was so happy with.”

Other interview highlights included the unexpected, off-the-cuff, informal moments wherein our favorite stars played ball with a few of our more-outlandish requests and questions. Case in point: When we asked Jackson Rathbone to help read off a few of the 2011 MTV Movie Awards nominees in song, which he did in good spirits and with aplomb. Then there was the “Breaking Dawn” version of the always-entertaining “Yes/No Show” with Pattinson, Stewart and Lautner.

And those are just a small collection of our favorites from 2011 alone. Only time will tell what 2012 will bring as we gear up for the “epic” conclusion to the franchise, “Breaking Dawn – Part 2.” It goes without saying that we can’t wait.

Daniel Radcliffe: Actor We’re Most Thankful For In 2011

‘Harry Potter’ star refers to 2011 as ‘not a breakout year, a breakaway year.’
By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

Daniel Radcliffe

Photo: MTV News

After our nods to rising stars Elizabeth Olsen, Michael Fassbender and Tom Hiddleston, MTV Movies’ Thankful Week continues with — drum roll, please — the actor we’re most thankful for in 2011: Daniel Radcliffe.

Really, what’s not to like about this talented young man? He’s dazzled audiences for more than a decade as “the boy who lived” in eight “Harry Potter” films and has most recently been the talk of the Great White Way with his critically acclaimed work in the musical “How to Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.” We feel pretty confident in saying that the future looks bright for this guy.

MTV News recently caught up with Radcliffe to get a sense of how he’s feeling post-Potter and where he wants to be in 10 years.

MTV: This is your first full year working outside “Harry Potter.” How has it been?

Daniel Radcliffe: It’s been a great first year away from “Potter.” It’s been very successful. I’ve done some work I’m really proud of in that time, particularly onstage in “How to Succeed.” Just the process of doing it and doing it and doing it, I’ve got so much better, I think, during the run, as is the way it should be. It’s been a great year, but I think next year is the big one for me. “The Woman in Black” is coming out, and I’ve also got a couple other things I’ll be doing. The next two or three years are going to be pretty important, I think, and if [2011] is not a breakout year, it’s a breakaway year.

MTV : What was the highlight for you this year?

Radcliffe: [Performing at] the Tony Awards, definitely. We were the first show to perform, and there is just that weird moment when you’re all standing there. I haven’t been that nervous in a long time. I don’t think I was as nervous on our opening night as I was at the Tonys. I was really, really nervous. Suddenly that huge LED screen goes up, and you’re all revealed like prizes on a game show, and Al Pacino is in the front row, sitting next to Bobby Cannavale, sitting next to Mark Rylance, all these brilliant actors, and you have to do your number. That’s probably a surreal, weird triumphant moment of that year, performing on the Tonys. That’s pretty cool. That’s something I will be able to tell my grandchildren that I did.

MTV : What have you learned about yourself and your work abilities?

Radcliffe: I think the most vital thing I’ve learned — and this is a thing I have to adapt and be able to find throughout my career, be it onstage or film in comedy or drama — is that the more I try and suppress my own natural oddness, the less successful I am. I have a slightly staccato way of moving and talking … the realization hit me that I’m working so hard to try and be something else, and actually, I just have to learn to be my most natural self onstage or onscreen, however that comes across. That is one of the biggest lessons there is: Don’t shy away from your own weirdness. Own your oddness.

MTV : Would you consider taking a role in a movie musical?

Radcliffe: Yeah, definitely. My hesitation about doing this one ["How to Succeed"] is that I’ve played parts for a long time, and I’ll have spent a long time with this, and I want my career to be about getting as many different characters under my belt as I possibly can. But yeah, I would love to, provided it was the right one, because they can go wrong. They can go spectacularly wrong, so we’ll see.

MTV : Looking back at “Potter” and going through the huge promotional push surrounding the final film, was any of that surprising in any way even though you’d been through it so many times before?

Radcliffe: It’s always what it is. I have a slight tendency when you’re doing these insane press days where you do a few interviews then the red carpet and it’s just mad, I have a slight tendency to shut down and go on autopilot just to get through it and not feel completely weirded out by the whole thing. What was strange to me was, in a way I felt slightly bad because I wasn’t getting upset like everyone else was. I’ve seen Rupert Grint cry once, on the last day of filming, when I was also in bits, but I’ve never seen Rupert get emotional like he did at the premiere … I cannot go on enough about how much I loved my time on “Potter.” It was the most amazing, happy time, but all good things must come to an end. We couldn’t have gone on forever. As much as people wanted us to, it would have been terrible. I’m glad to have done it and gone out on such a high note and now be moving on as we all are.

MTV : Do you hope you’ll continue to have a relationship with J.K. Rowling?

Radcliffe: I hope so, yeah, I really hope so. For somebody that was indirectly and directly such a huge influence on my life, I really hope so. I don’t know if she’s going to write anything else about Harry, but maybe I could direct something in years to come or something; we know each other.

MTV : Looking ahead 10 years, what do you hope to be doing, best and worst case scenario?

Radcliffe: My worst nightmare is that in 10 years, I will be not working and not doing anything. Even if in five years time I decide to leave the film industry and go off and become an archaeologist, even if I’m doing that, that’s great, fine. Best-case scenario is that in 10 years time, I’ll have got a good few films under my belt, I don’t know how many that would be … suppose we did eight “Potter” movies in 10 [years]; double that, maybe 16? Who knows. Hopefully I’ll do a few films with very different parts, very different directors, and ideally, I would have liked to direct something by then; that’s the ambition. I do feel having spent so much time on a film set, I would have a very good idea of how to run a film set, how to lead that set and, I don’t know, I love telling stories, so I would like that as a job.

Will ‘Breaking Dawn’ R-Rated Sex Scene Make The DVD?

Director Bill Condon ‘went for it’ on too-hot-for-PG-13 version of the honeymoon, screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg tells MTV News.
By Terri Schwartz, with reporting by Josh Horowitz

“Twilight” fans should know by now that the original sex scene filmed for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ was a lot steamier than the version that made the final cut. The MPAA said the film would need an R rating if director Bill Condon didn’t cut out some of the “thrusting.”

Needless to say, he did, and “Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ currently reigns atop the box office with a PG-13 rating. But screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg admitted to MTV News that she wished the raunchier cut had made it to the big screen.

“Bill, he went for it,” Rosenberg said with a laugh when she recently spoke to MTV News. “I wanted to keep [the footage].”

Though all the bumping and grinding didn’t make it to the final cut of the film, Rosenberg is crossing her fingers that a lot of the footage will make it to the DVD. So everyone out there hoping that some of the more explicit parts of that sex scene will one day be released for public consumption, you just might be in luck.

That’s not the only scene that got chopped from the final cut of the movie, though. Rosenberg said there was a sequence before Bella and Edward’s wedding that also got the ax because it was slowing down the rest of the movie.

“There was a whole section before the wedding with Charlie, Renee and Carlisle and Edward, kind of a back-and-forth, but it just slowed everything down. But there are some nice things in there,” she said.

To calm fans who might be upset about missing that interaction, Rosenberg added, “But again, these are things that will show up someday.”

‘Breaking Dawn – Part 2′ Has A ‘Global Feeling’

Director Bill Condon calls final ‘Twilight’ film ‘epic,’ while screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg promises it will be ‘kick butt.’

“Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ has officially arrived in theaters, and you know what that means: Let the talk about “Part 2″ begin!

MTV News’ Josh Horowitz sat down with director Bill Condon and screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg to discuss what Twi-hards can expect from the conclusion of “The Twilight Saga.”

Condon hinted that there will be a significant jump in tone between “Part 1″ and “Part 2,” a film he described as “epic.” “['Breaking Dawn - Part 1'] is a very, very emotional, romantic story in the first half that gets dark and has elements of a horror movie in it,” he said, possibly referring to the infamous birth scene.

In “Part 2,” Condon said the action will focus on the larger world of vampires, which comes into the conflict with the birth of Bella and Edward’s daughter, Renesmee. “The second one: It is truly the meeting of the vampires from around the world, so it has a really kind of global feeling,” he said.

Rosenberg promised one thing: action. “The journey of the second film is survival, and it is kick butt. There’s going to be some action going on there,” she said.

Both Condon and Rosenberg were hesitant to comment on how the second film will end. Condon said he knows how it ends, but wouldn’t offer much else, saying only, “It’s an ending.”

Rosenberg, on the other hand, was more giving, and said the answer lies in what Stephenie Meyer originally wrote. “It’s in the book, and it felt right,” she said.

‘Breaking Dawn’ Screenwriter Invited Herself To Wedding

‘I was [Bella's mom] Renee’s friend from California,’ Melissa Rosenberg says of scripting backstory for her ‘Part 1′ cameo.

The first “Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ teaser trailer, released back in June, gave fans a look at the wedding of Bella Swan and Edward Cullens. But equally interesting were the guests of honor featured in the wedding sequence, which introduced new characters like the Denali clan of vampires. But with the movie in theaters on Friday (November 18), one attendee in particular will likely have Twilighters geeking out.

“The Twilight Saga” author Stephenie Meyer made her first cameo in the series back in 2008′s “Twilight,” playing a restaurant patron. But the author-turned-executive producer on parts 1 and 2 of “Breaking Dawn” couldn’t resist returning to the big screen so she could attend the wedding ceremony she inspired. In a blink-and-you-miss it moment, Meyer can be spotted sitting in the pews on Bella and Edward’s big day. But she’s not the only behind-the-scenes figure who makes a sneak appearance.

“I’m right next to her!” “Breaking Dawn” screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg recently told MTV News.

Rosenberg understands, however, if fans don’t recognize her on the first viewing, because even she couldn’t find her cameo at first. She admitted to jokingly telling director Bill Condon that “there’s one guest at the wedding who’s not seen enough,” until Condon added a few more frames in the movie. But when Rosenberg still couldn’t spot herself among the guests, Condon took matters into his own hands.

“Finally, during one screening, he stopped and said, ‘See! There you are!’ ” she said with a laugh. “It was Stephenie and then [producer] Wyck Godfrey and then myself and then [producer] Bill Bannerman, we were all in the same row at the wedding.”

And as Meyer and Rosenberg are behind the “Twilight Saga” screenplays, it only makes sense that they took the time to come up with a backstory for their respective characters at the wedding.

“Stephenie was married to Wyck, and I was [Bella's mom] Renee’s friend from California,” Rosenberg explained. It sounds like there’s a fan-fiction to be written about the time between Meyer’s diner dinner and when she got invited to the Cullen wedding!”

‘Breaking Dawn’ Director Gave Fans ‘A Lot’ Of Sex

Bill Condon tells MTV News he tried ‘to give people the experience they had reading the book’ in ‘Part 1.’

“Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ features two of the most hotly anticipated moments in the entire “Twilight Saga.” First, lovebirds Bella Swan and Edward Cullen finally get it on. And later, in a far less tender scene, Bella endures a pretty gory birth to give life to her half-human, half-vampire daughter, Renesmee.

Bill Condon knew all along that those two scenes were pivotal moments that he would need to get right onscreen. But keeping in mind the PG-13 rating the studio wanted to preserve, the director also knew that he had to tackle those intense sequences without going too far over the line. When MTV News caught up with Condon, he predicted that fans will be pleased with the final product (especially the sex scene), which hit theaters on Friday (November 18).

As in the novel, the honeymoon scene plays out mostly through Bella remembering the passionate night the morning after, which allowed Condon to show the event in several parts.

“I think when you see the movie you’ll see, you think you get it and then you get more of it and then you get more of it, which I think was part of the intention because it’s such a big thing — everyone’s been waiting for it,” he said. “We just wanted to make sure you got a lot of it when you got it.”

And Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart were good sports about the whole process, Condon said, though he admitted filming the steamy section got “kind of clinical.” The scene was carefully choreographed but the two lead actors were “so cool about it.”

The birthing sequence, which easily could have pushed the film to an “R” rating, proved similarly challenging. Condon wanted to stay as true as possible to Stephenie Meyer’s depiction but he knew he couldn’t be too graphic. “You want to give people the experience they had reading the book, and that was incredibly powerful, the way Stephenie described it.

“You can’t show everything, obviously, we have a [PG-13] rated movie,” he said. “But we did it through the point of view of Bella and what she can see as she’s giving birth. I think your imagination fills in a lot of that.”

‘Breaking Dawn’ Breaks Box-Office Records

“Twilight” fans came out in force Friday and made sure “Breaking Dawn” broke records.

“The Twilight Saga” may be drawing to a close, but there’s nothing close to a slowdown at the box office. Estimates put the Friday numbers for the second-to-last entry in the series at $138 million around the world, as “Breaking Dawn” rolled out in 54 global markets. The domestic box office received a welcome 11 percent boost from the same period last year, thanks to the legions of “Twilight” fans.

Midnight showings helped propel “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ past “The Dark Knight,” “Transformers” and most of the “Potter” movies in the all-time opening-day box-office record books. “Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ enjoyed the third-highest opening day ever with a projected $72 million in domestic receipts, according to studio estimates. The first part of Edward, Bella and Jacob’s final chapter together didn’t manage to beat the opening day of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2″ or 2009′s “New Moon,” but it was a close race between the “Twilight” films. “New Moon” opened with $72.7 million, and final calculations could change the outcome between the two.

“Twilight” fans who endured long lines for midnight showings accounted for $30.25 million of the “Breaking Dawn” first day-number. Based on the receipts thus far, industry watchers predict an opening weekend in the $140 million range, which is more than Summit Entertainment’s conservative projections. That would give the latest “Twilight” the fifth-highest opening weekend ever behind “Deathly Hallows, Part 2,” “The Dark Knight,” “Spider-Man 3″ and “New Moon.” “Eclipse” opened with $68.5 million; the first “Twilight” debuted with $36 million.

Critics savaged director Bill Condon’s first foray into Stephenie Meyer territory, but audiences have told a different story. “Breaking Dawn – Part 1″ scored a paltry 27 percent on film review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences have given it a B+ CinemaScore. “Eclipse” and the first film remain tied as the best-reviewed in the series, with 49 percent each on the Tomatometer.

As expected, nothing else in theaters had anything close to the momentum of the continuing “Twilight” phenomenon. Despite additional revenue from 3-D showings, “Happy Feet 2″ opened with less than half of the previous movie’s first day in 2006. The animated feature (which once again features the voice of “The Lord of the Rings” star Elijah Wood) took in just $5.9 million, according to studio estimates.

Last weekend’s #1 movie, “Immortals,” was down 74 percent with $3.82 million. That decline is much worse than comparable swords-and-sandals action pictures like “300″ and “Clash of the Titans.” The horribly reviewed Adam Sandler vehicle “Jack and Jill” made $3.5 million in its second Friday in theaters. “Puss in Boots” dropped steeply but has earned well over $100 million in the last few weeks.

Well over a decade ago, the big box-office story started with a T as well: “Titanic” was on its way to become the highest-grossing movie of all time (later surpassed by “Avatar”) and the heartthrob generating all the heat was Leonardo DiCaprio, not Robert Pattinson. Nowadays, the 37-year-old actor and philanthropist is all grown up and starring in director Clint Eastwood’s “J. Edgar” biopic. The limited-release period drama dropped 58 percent on its second Friday and has generated an estimated $16.6 million thus far. The movie certainly wasn’t conceived as a blockbuster. DiCaprio still has summer-movie clout: “Inception” has grossed nearly $300 million since it was released in July 2010.
