As you’d expect, there are loads of Events, Festivals and Attractions to visit in South Devon throughout 2015.
- MARCH | 3 - 7 March 2015, Dartmouth Comedy Festival
Dartmouth Comedy Festival is back with a vengeance! We are delighted to announce that this year – the eighth year – the line-up boasts some of the best of British comedy including Alexi Sayle, Tony Law, Tiffany Stevenson, Pete Firman, Andrew Lawrence and The Noise Next Door and is full of stand up and variety. The Festival runs from Tuesday March 3rd to Saturday March 7th at the Flavel Theatre and venues around Dartmouth. Prepare to chortle and laugh your socks off – because as we know laughter is the best medicine possible.
- APRIL | 16 - 18 April 2015, Tuckers Maltings Beer Festival
Newton Abbot’s Tuckers Maltings hosts one of the few beer festivals that is actually set in a brewery or, to be precise, a Victorian malthouse. Take the opportunity to sample from the scores of West Country ales available. Dozens of breweries are represented. You’ll need to pace yourself if you want to try all the beers on offer. Bottoms up!!!

- APRIL | 24 - 26 April 2015, Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink
The South West’s largest Food and Drink Festival is an annual event held in the centre of Exeter. Taking place over three days, the Festival also includes Festival After Dark Events featuring live music, chef demos and a great atmosphere. The 2014 festival attracted more than 15,000 visitors, with people flocking to Exeter to indulge in top-notch South West food and drink, and to learn from the many cookery demonstrations and workshops. 2015 promises even more!!
- MAY | 1 - 3 May 2015, BMAD Paignton Bike Festival
BMAD Paignton Bike Festival takes place on the weekend of 1 – 3 May 2015. The Paignton Bike Festival is organised by Bikers Make A Difference who give the proceeds from the event to the disabled children of Torbay, Devon Air Ambulance and St John’s too. The Paignton Bike Festival 2015 line-up will have three days of live music, stunt riders, displays, competitions and plenty of motorbike action all weekend.
- MAY | 2 - 4 May 2015, Brixham Pirate & Shanty Festival
The Brixham Pirate Festival is a swashbuckling event lasting for an entire weekend, including competitions, yummy food, great themed entertainment and a chance to dig out that hat and eye patch …and don’t forget the parrot!
- MAY | 3 May 2015, Blackawton International Festival of Worm Charming
Got swagger? Then test your animal magnetism with one of the world’s strangest “sports”, the noble art of worm charming. Imagine snake charming but without the danger, an activity to appease everyone’s inner-gardener. The event is one that has to be seen to be believed, as contestants try to coax the greatest number of worms from a square-metre patch of soggy English soil. All methods are legal except, of course, digging the little blighters out. So sing, dance or bribe your worms for a crack at worm-charming fame.

Dartmouth Music Festival is legendary. Everywhere you turn there is music! The Festival’s ‘Music for All’ policy means over 100 performances spanning almost every musical genre throughout the town in a variety of lovely venues from pubs to churches. This Is a FREE public festival.

Devon’s BIG day out… there’s something for everyone at the Devon County Show! See the animals, enjoy the attractions plus fabulous local food and drink.
- MAY | 23 - 25 May 2015, BrixFest
BrixFest is a 3 day festival celebrating Brixham’s fascinating maritime heritage and vibrant present day culture. Historic fishing trawlers, seafood, live music and fireworks will be combined to celebrate the best of Brixham past and present. The Heritage Trawler Regatta is a festival highlight. Local chefs will give seafood cooking demonstrations and locally produced beers and ciders will be available. There will also be demonstrations of traditional fishing-related skills including crab and lobster pot weaving, knot tying and rope making.
- MAY | 24 May 2015, Prawle Fair
Prawle Fair is one of the most popular events in the South Hams and is like stepping back in time with all the old favourite attractions such as swing boats, donkey rides, children’s train ride, test your strength, slippery pole, hoopla, raffles, children’s tug of war and lots more. The fair is a great community effort with lots of the villagers involved in one way or the other. It is run annually to raise money for the upkeep of Prawle Community Hall and to support various local good causes.
- JUNE | 5 - 6 June 2015, Occombe Farm Beer Festival
Party till the cows come home! Occombe Beer Festival is a fundraising event run in aid of local conservation charity Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust. Bring along a thirst for sampling from the best of the region’s beverages washed down with live bands and dancing in the farmyard. You’re sure to find something to tantalise your taste buds amongst the 70+ range of beers, local ciders, perry, wine and even Pimm’s on offer, accompanied by delicious local foods including a hog roast and BBQs.
- JUNE | 13 - 21 June 2015, Babbacombe Festival
Take a look at the pictures from previous years on www.babbacombe.org and keep an eye on it as the programme for 2015 develops. It all kicks off with the Babbacombe Fayre as usual on the third Wednesday of June and features Dave Hanbury’s fabulous charity event ‘Fish and Chips’ on the Downs with entertainment and activities all day long.
- JUNE | 18 June 2015, La Solitaire Du Figaro International Yacht Race
Torquay has been announced as the UK stopover in the 2015 Solitaire du Figaro – Eric Bompard Cachemire – a gruelling 2015 mile race known as the unofficial world championships of solo offshore sailing. The ultimate annual sailing endurance race, the Solitaire du Figaro brings only the very best offshore sailors to its start line.
- JUNE | 20 June 2015, Brixham Trawler Race
This quirky race is when the modern working fleet lets its hair down. Skippers dress the boats with bunting and battle it out with two-lap race around the Bay and fun and festivities on the quayside all raising money for local charities. The winner is not always the first across the line as there is a very strict handicapping system.

- JUNE | 19 - 21 June 2015, Teignmouth Folk Festival
Annual Folk Festival in Teignmouth with numerous acts over three days with a fantastic atmosphere. Teignmouth is one of Devon’s oldest seaside resorts and is located on the estuary of the River Teign. This lovely festival includes concerts, ceilidhs, dance displays, sessions and much more! Teignmouth’s long pedestrianised prom and pedestrianised town centre are perfect for the parades and outside performances that give the whole event such character.
- JUNE | 28 June 2015, Torbay Half Marathon
June 28th 2015 will see the 24th running of this very popular seaside event, with demand for places steadily growing, early entry to this event is advised, as we may well be full before race day. The Torbay Half Marathon route is a traffic free two lap route which starts and finishes on Paignton seafront, taking in the stunning coastal views across Torbay. Starting with one lap of Paignton Green before heading towards Torquay, where the course passes historic Torre Abbey and then continues past Princess Gardens before returning to Paignton.
- JULY | 3 - 13 July 2015, Ways With Words Festival
Ways With Words – a major event in the national literary calendar, held in the stunning surrounds of the Dartington Hall Estate, near Totnes. A chance for those who read books to meet those who write them. The setting is glorious, the atmosphere is invigorating. People come together in spectacular surroundings to share the pleasure and power of language and ideas.
- JULY | 4 July 2015, Lets Rock Exeter!
The family friendly Let’s Rock Exeter! brings 80’s music to magnificent Powderham Castle. With a fabulous line-up of artists to bring you the very best of the 80s, and an action packed day of general 80s madness, there is plenty to do for everyone at this family-friendly festival.
- JULY | 17 - 18 July 2015, Exeter Craft Festival
This combination of art, craft and entertainment has been an annual event for 40 years and 2015 promises to be better than ever. Over 100 stalls in a unique tented village give the visitor the opportunity to see the work of the West Country’s best artists and makers. In the historic setting of Exeter’s Cathedral Green this very special event will take place over two days on Friday 17th & Saturday 18th July 2015.
- JULY | 10 - 12 July 2015, Tiverton Balloon & Music Festival
Returning bigger and better for 2015 with a fun-filled programme of over 35+ Musical acts, a Comedy Stage (Friday Night), ‘Taste of the West’ Food Pavilion, Westcountry Ales & Cider, Craft Stalls, Vintage Aircraft Displays, Mountain Bike Stunt Teams, Archery, Falconry, Fire & Light Shows, a Planetarium, workshops and of course, Mass Ascents featuring a whole host of colourful Hot Air Balloons including Special Shapes!
- JULY | 17 - 18 July 2015, Chagstock Music Festival
Chagstock has grown from a party in a field into one of the west country’s best-loved festivals. Set in 40 acres of farmland on the northern edge of Dartmoor National Park, it is renowned for its stunning location and diverse line-up. Just 5,000 tickets are available to ensure that an intimate, family-friendly atmosphere is maintained.

- JULY | 31 July - 1 Aug 2015, Dartmouth Crab Festival
Taking place alongside the River Dart, on the Quay in Dartmouth, this fantastic Street Party sees South Devon Crab on the menu. Expect music and entertainment as a side order with some of the best tasting crab you’re ever likely to eat. Get tickets! Dress up, dress down, but make sure you get a ticket to this ‘ticket only’ event. Tickets available from Rockfish Organised by Rockfish Restaurant alongside celebrity local chef Mitch Tonks, who is a strong advocate for food of South Devon, this is an event not to be missed.
- JULY | 31 July - 7 Aug 2015, Sidmouth Folk Week
With over 600 events to choose from, Sidmouth Folk Week is unique. If you’re new to Sidmouth, you’re in for a treat. Imagine a festival that fills a beautiful little Regency seaside town… music flooding out of every doorway, colourful dancing on the esplanade, concerts of all sizes in every imaginable venue, and the best folk bands around. The festival ends with a torchlight procession and fireworks display along Sidmouth seafront.
- AUGUST | 8 Aug 2015, Dittisham Regatta
Dittisham Regatta, held annually in and around the infamous Ferry Boat Inn and the adjoining quay side is one of the best light hearted regatta’s around. Sailing, rowing, crabbing and general messing about on and in the river together with tug of war and stalls, food, family competitions and of course music!
- AUGUST | 27 - 29 Aug 2015, Dartmouth Royal Regatta
3 days of sailing events, rowing events, a tennis tournament and an air display make up this years Port of Dartmouth Royal Regatta. Dartmouth is a famous yachting centre with a long maritime history.
- SEPTEMBER | 5 Sept 2015, Fishstock, Brixham | Seafood & Music Festival
Celebrate Brixham’s Fishing and Seafood Heritage, with chefs’ demonstrations, cookery classes for children and a mix of musicians and entertainers that will delight everyone. One day event, 11am – 11pm.
- SEPTEMBER | 8 Sept 2015, Widecombe Fair
First held in the 1850’s, Widecombe now attracts many thousands of visitors. The famous folk song recalls the story of Uncle Tom Cobley and his friends riding to Widecombe Fair on a grey mare. Needless to say, he and his faithful nag will be there again this year along with a range of animals and local produce. 9am till late…
- SEPTEMBER | 11 - 19 Sept 2015, International Agatha Christie Festival, Torquay
The all-new literary crime festival with a vintage twist. Join the 125th Birthday Celebrations of the Queen of Crime. Glamorous literary and murder mystery events will centre on the festival’s home at Torquay’s historic Torre Abbey, with its spectacular sea-facing setting and intriguing Potent Plants Garden that highlights some of Christie’s deadliest poisons.
- SEPTEMBER | 12 Sept 2015, Ashburton Food & Drink Festival
Ashburton has long been known as a great place for food with farmers’ markets, deli’s, restaurants, wine bars, cafe’s, butcher, artisan baker, fishmonger, food shops, and a cookery school. On Saturday 12th September 2015, St. Lawrence Lane in the heart of Ashburton town centre will be closed to traffic for the day and over 40 exhibitors of local produce will line the street offering the very best in local food & drink. 10am – 4pm.
- SEPTEMBER | 18 - 20 Sept 2015, Abbfest Beer & Food Festival
A three day ale & cider extravaganza held between Abbotskerswell and Ipplepen. Scores of Devon breweries take part each year, showcasing in excess of 160 ales and more than a dozen ciders. Live entertainment is laid on throughout the weekend, with more than 60 Devon food and craft stalls.
- OCTOBER | 23 - 25 Oct 2015, Dart Food Festival, Dartmouth
Voted one of the TOP 10 Food festivals in the uk (by the Guardian) this impressive FREE festival showcasing the best of the south west’s food produce is not to be missed. Local and celebrity chefs get involved along with up to 10,000 visitors to make, bake, stir, fry and try a whole host of gourmet treats. Pop-up restaurants, displays, get involved workshops, tasting sessions, competitions and local traders and markets.
- NOVEMBER | 5 Nov 2015, Tar Barrel Rolling, Ottery St Mary
Traditional custom featuring 17 tar-soaked barrels which are lit and carried around the streets of Ottery St Mary. The true origin of the event is unclear but theories range attempts to ward off evil spirits, through to a signal to warn of the Spanish Armada. Event includes a funfair and a massive bonfire ignited on the banks of the River Otter.
